What a Friday

Friday came and went, but it was so beautiful. I was in no mood to make dinner that evening, so decided to meet at a pizza joint. Just after we finished pizza and some delicious potato wedges, Kumar suggested out of the blue that we go to Sentosa!!! And it was 8 p m already. Of course, he asked if i was game for it!! And i could not think of anything more fun to do. So off we went, quickly put out our hands to stop a cab and zoomed our way to the cable car building. Just as we stepped in to buy our tickets for our night cable car trip to Sentosa, i was whisked away back in time to when i was seven or eight years old. That's when as a family (dad, mom, sis and i) made a trip to singapore last and that was the first time i ever sat in a cable car. All those memories made that little eight year old girl in me to wake up and be wide awake at eight forty that evening. And all that i wanted to do was, let my hair down and have as much fun as i could.

It was then time to get the tickets and we mutually agreed on getting tickets for the complete-glass cable car. Which meant, we could see the road right below our feet as well. A quick pump in the adrenaline endorsed how excited the child was getting. Up we went, showed our tickets and waitied a little while for our Glass cable car and if finally arrived. Both of us quickly hopped into it and as if to derive some sense of security, held on firmly to the railing in front of us as we sat. The Cable car moved really slowly till inside the teminal and then just as it was about to take off from the ground tracks, the door shut firm with a click. That click, believe me sounded like the most reassuring thing ever. The only adrenaline pang was the moment when the cable car took off from the building picking up speed, when you feel you are being thrown off the building to head straight into the trees below. But the moment just after that makes your fears go away pooof.

It was an awesome sight, to see lights and roads below lit up, the entire city was lit up and we could turn around and see it. Splendid. It was fabulous to see the Star Cruises ship right below us. It looked like a huge multi-storeyed building, with a pool, people and what not. It looked like a delicious lit-up cake from up above. And just as we went over it, the ship set sail. Oh man, that was indeed quite an experience.

We finally got off, Kumar grabbed a cuppa coffee and i my regular chai, which was so not regular with a ship-load of cinnamon in it. Yuck! It was bad. But ok. I'm not going to treat myself to tea thats made by anyone but me and Nalini (Chetna's mum) aunty maybe!!

We just missed the last of the musical fountain shows, which Kumar thought was at 9 30, but it was at 8 40 instead. Nothing upset us. We decided to walk towards Siloso beach, we took the longest way possible, the sidewalk corniche by the sea - winding, dimly lit and maily snails snailing their way across the pebbled path.

Reading all the love messages drawn on the shore we walked slowly, trying to decipher some of the intensely cryptic ones. Next it was some drink time, so walked into Sunset (Bar, i guess).. sunset something i am sure, but way beyong sunset!! We ordered two glasses of the world famous Singapore Sling to accompany a game of pool. After the game, Kumar ordered a Baileys Irish Cream and then we were off to the shore again. With rolled up jeans we went calf deep into the water by just standing in one place, feet sinking right into the sand everytime the waves receded. We then meditated for a while and decided it was time to leave thanks to the light drizzle that told us with each drop how badly we needed some good night's rest. But just before leaving, we had one huge task - finding a loo!! It was not very difficult, but was a long walk from where we were, and even if we'd peed in our pants, we wouldn't have known!! The toilets were simply superb, they were absolutely tastefully built, with stone floors, and wash-basins and water spouts on the wall for an open shower!! And they were HUGE. Glad i did not miss them.

It was nearning 12 45 on our mobile phones by then and we walked on to find a cab. A very sweet cabbie stopped his already hired cab and asked us if we would want him to call a cab for us. It was too complicated to understand what he meant to say, in the state that we were in that all we could do was thank him profusely and say, 'oh, its ok la'!! and he drove on just a couple of feet and stopped again and reversed the cab. This time it was a kind lady sitting behind (who'd hired the cab) spoke to us rolling down the window. She said, 'What he was trying to ask you was, if you'd want him to call a cab for you.. you see he tells me that it's a long way out from where you are and finding a cab is almost an uncertainty'. We looked at each other and thanked him and her again for being so kind and told them that we'd manage somehow. That's when she changed her mind and said, 'i can actually give you guys a lift till just after the bridge, so that you can get your own cab from there'. We gave up, din't think much and saying, 'ok, thaank you..' hopped in... all the way thanking both the cabbie and the kindly lady profusely. As we just crossed the bridge, we spotted a cab, waved fantically at the cabbie to stop and quickly got out of the one we were in and got into the other one. After the customary greetings he looked at Kumar (as he was fastening his seatbelt) and asked him, 'Are you Steeve??!!' ooops hired cab.. Said sorry and got off again. But not before too long we came across the cab that would take us home. Home sweet home, finally. Home we went and hit the sack. Whack.
